Last week, Australia's leading restaurateurs came together to call for active change to ensure the future growth of the $64 billion industry. Business owners in the restaurant and cafe segment of the Accommodation & Food Service Industry have combined efforts to create the Australian Restaurant and Cafe Association Ltd (ARCA).

Led by CEO Wes Lambert, Chair Neil Perry (@chefneilperry) AM and Deputy Chair Chris Lucas (@mrchrislucas), ARCA vows to be the unwavering voice of the almost 55,000 under-represented cafes and restaurants in Australia, advocating for change to ensure our restaurants and cafes thrive while facing unprecedented challenges which threaten not only the industry but the livelihood of those who work to uphold it.

With representatives from industry giants including Lucas Restaurants, FINK Group, Swillhouse Group and House Made Hospitality, media crews including Australian Financial Review, Channel 7, 9 and 10, and more, joined industry leaders to capture this advocacy for the restaurant and cafe industry.

“It’s an honour to be given the trust of the industry to spearhead this new Association and I intend to work around the clock to represent restaurants and cafes and work collaboratively with all levels of Government and stakeholders for change.” - Wes Lambert

MINT planned the announcement to create awareness of the new organisation and its purpose, drive membership and engage key media and stakeholders with the Association. A media doorstop was staged, following the inaugural board meeting on Friday 31st May, driving significant national broadcast, print and online media coverage.

MINT are proud to support an industry we have loved and represented for over 20 years to ensure a vibrant restaurant and cafe culture in Australia for many years to come.

Our client @w_brisbane unveiled an exciting collaboration with Matt Whiley, the award-winning bartender behind one of The World’s 50 Best Bars, @_wearere

In W Brisbane’s stylish Living Room Bar, Whiley takes typically discarded ingredients and wasted food products from the hotel’s kitchens and applies his innovative approach to mixology to create a unique collection of cocktails. Exclusive to W Brisbane, the menu ‘Conscious Cocktails’ sets a new benchmark for sustainable luxury and features such tipples as Malt Disney, Tip of the Iceberg and The Seed Money - this particular cocktail utilising blackened pumpkin seeds and paired with heavy cream distilled fords to create a complex flavour.

The six-month collaboration highlights W Brisbane’s commitment to eco-friendly practices, already seen throughout the hotel, and champions Whiley’s vision to encourage those in the hospitality industry to approach ‘waste’ differently.

The Conscious Cocktails menu is available at W Brisbane from 30th May to 30th November 2024.

Australia’s leading restaurateurs have joined forces to say, ‘Enough is Enough’ and call for positive change to ensure the future of Australia's $64 billion restaurant and cafe industry.

Forming the Australian Restaurant and Cafe Association Ltd (ARCA), spearheaded by hospitality and restaurant industry advocate Wes Lambert and Neil Perry (@chefneilperry) AM as Chair, Australia’s leading restaurateurs including Chris Lucas (@mrchrislucas), Deputy Chair of the board, from Lucas Restaurants (@lucasrestaurants), and representatives from restaurant groups such as Margaret Group, Fink Group, Merivale, The Grounds of Alexandra, and more, were in attendance to call for change.

“The current policy framework is not supporting the restaurant and cafe sector to continue to contribute to Australia’s economy. We’ve been calling out for change, and today, we’ve gathered Australia's leading restaurant owners together to drive impactful change in legislation and policy shifts to allow the industry to survive and thrive.” - Neil Perry.
